Created by a professional accountant who regularly works with businesses and organizations, the new Series for Excellence in Financial Management was developed to respond to the common questions and challenges managers experience when it comes to financial management. Understand the elements of building an operational budget. Feeling comfortable and confident with the meaning of financial terms and reading financial statements can ease the strain of month end reporting. You’ve been told to make the case for that additional position that you know is needed. What should you include in your business case to ensure you have success? Decision making is challenging but having financial data to guide you will make that process less taxing.

Financial information can be most helpful to drive decision-making or measure results. Understanding how financial information is collected and what it is and is not telling you takes some skills. This new Series for Excellence in Financial Management includes four seminars focused on the topics most managers should understand.

The Certificate in Managing Conflict requires participants to complete a required course: Foundations of Conflict Resolution before starting two of three elective options. Please choose electives below and consider the date options carefully.

The Certificate in Skills for the New Manager requires the completion of a require seminar and a choice of two electives.

The Certificate in Advanced Skills for New Managers requires the completion of three required seminars.

To complete the Certificate in Managing Human Resources participants must complete the required Human Resource Fundamentals seminar plus two electives.

The Certificate in Practical Leadership requires the completion of the required seminar Leadership 2.0 plus two of the three electives.

The Certificate in Policy Development & Implementation requires the completion of the following four seminars.

To complete the Certificate in Business Communications , participants must complete the required Business Writing Skills seminar plus two electives.

Certificate Requirements

The online Certificate in Financial Management consists of three sessions. They must be taken in order and completed within a six month period. Each session should take 4 – 5 hours to complete.

Financial Literacy
In this session you will learn how to unlock the mysteries of financial statements. The online lectures will explain financial terms in an easy to understand manner. Each topic area features a set of questions that will test your understanding of the topic.

Budgeting and Projections
In this session you will learn how to prepare a budget, including balance sheets and cash flow statements and develop an in-depth understanding of how the financial statements fit together. Most participants find that the completion of this session helps them to see financial statements and budgets in a clearer light.

Financial Decision-Making
Building on the concepts learned in sessions one and two, participants will learn how to approach a financial decision and determine the best course of action. Techniques include incremental analysis and capital budgeting.
