Saturday Art School 2020

2020 Theme:

Transformation: A Thorough and Dramatic Change

Change occurs in all stages and in innumerable ways throughout our lives. When enough changes take place in one spot, they culminate in transformations—of our bodies, ideas, mindsets, abilities, of the environments with which we interact, in the objects around us. Transformation has the potential to occur in any moment of experience and encounter when our insides come into contact with our outsides. In this session of Saturday Art School, students, with their teachers, will explore various aspects of transformation—in art, art making processes, and in their own experiences.

NEW THIS YEAR: Fibers for High School Students

This year, Saturday Art School is offering an additional High School class in Fibers during the Saturday Art School Session. It will taught by a local high school teacher. Students participating in the Saturday Art School High School Fibers class will work with a variety of fiber materials, including; denim, wool, felt, old t-shirts, Paracord, and buttons. Students will experience many hands-on fiber techniques, such as felting, stitching, and embroidery. During the class, students will use the idea of a zombie apocalypse as a focus for their projects and will learn about contemporary fiber artists to inspire their work. At the end of the class, students will leave with a knowledge of basic fiber skills, ideas to incorporate fiber arts into their own work, and their own zombie apocalypse inspired fiber creations from the class. Sign up for this great fiber art opportunity!

Saturday Art School is an extracurricular visual arts program for children in grades K to 12. Local children and teens explore ideas and materials with advanced art education students, under the direction of faculty and graduate assistants, each Saturday for eight Saturdays.
