Physician Health Program - Member Townhall on Spirituality

Event Location: Zoom

Please join the Physician Health Program for a spirituality discussion hosted by Dr. Jon Novick taking place on Wednesday, Dec. 7  from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Our panel of 5 accomplished physicians speaking about the ways in which spirituality informs their practice of medicine and/or their lives, whether it be with reference to the divine, faith, introspection, community, culture, and more.  Time for questions and answers will take us further along in our exploration of this often-under-appreciated aspect of medical care as we exchange ideas and insights with our panelists and fellow attendees.

While the role of spirituality in recovery from substance use disorders may be emphasized by many physicians who recognize its importance, especially those working in the field of addiction, the broader role of spirituality in healing and other areas of medicine is easily overlooked, misunderstood, or dismissed.  In addition, many of us might say that spirituality was not a topic that figured even peripherally in our training.  And yet, spirituality - defined broadly as an experience of transcendence, or more specifically in reference to religion - plays an important role in the practice of medicine, and its influence extends beyond the more familiar (or acceptable) role it is known to play in recovery and 12 Step Programs.

The event will be hosted by OMA PHP leaders, Dr. Jon Novick, Ted Bober, and Laura Mattila.
