The Art of Mastering Empowering Questioning - Instructional Leader Session In this coaching session, we will focus on supporting teachers in developing their ability to use powerful questioning techniques in the classroom to engage and challenge students. This will be explored through modelling, observing opportunities and directly coaching. Instructional leaders will learn how to support teachers in asking open-ended questions that promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and how to use questions to deepen understanding and assess student learning. As a leader, you will learn about coaching teachers how to scaffold questions to meet the needs of all learners. By the end of this session, you will have a toolbox of effective questioning strategies to support the classroom.

The Art of Assessing Mathematical Thinking - Instructional Leader Session In this session, we will share an assessment planning process that is based on teaching for conceptual understanding with any curriculum. Instructional leaders will focus on the new Alberta Math curriculum and learn how to support teachers in creating an assessment plan that meets the needs of a differentiated classroom. Participants will also collaborate to make a shareable list of planning strategies that support a modified or accommodated diverse learner support plan, intervention plan, and EAL plan.

The Art of Assessing Linguistic Thinking - Instructional Leader Session In this session, we will share an assessment planning process that is based on teaching for conceptual understanding with any curriculum. Instructional leaders will focus on the new ELAL curriculum and learn how to support teachers in creating an assessment plan that meets the needs of a differentiated classroom. Participants will also collaborate to make a shareable list of planning strategies that support a modified or accommodated diverse learner support plan, intervention plan, and EAL plan. This list includes but is not limited to strategies around phonics, phonological awareness and fluency outcomes.

Speaker Biography:
Janice Hagan is experienced in teaching grades K-12 in public, private, charter and international schools. She specializes in Division 1 and 2 in the areas of special needs and languages. Janice has participated in various teams and committees that focus on best practice in education. She has a passion for sharing her knowledge and collaborating with others.

Location:
This session is facilitated virtually via Google Meet. The meeting link will be sent the day before each session.

Asynchronous Learning Option:
Registered participants will gain 2-week access to the recording, presentation slides, and other session materials for their session(s).
Recording and materials are posted to a Google Classroom once the session is completed. The link to access materials will be emailed to registered participants.
