Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada), in conjunction with Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia (CPABC), and Women Get on Board, are hosting a live roundtable for mid-career (10-20 years post certification) CPAs to start their journey to getting board-ready. The roundtable will be led by experienced corporate directors who currently serve on corporate boards, helping participants gain practical insights and information on the sought-after skills that boards look for.
The event will be followed by a networking reception where participants can engage with the speakers one-on-one and interact with their peers.

Speakers Bio:
Elizabeth Watson, QC
Elizabeth Watson (Liz), President and CEO of WATSON Inc., has more than 35 years experience as a lawyer and more than 15 years as a leading advisor to boards, committees and CEOs. Liz regularly advises clients on governance, board  effectiveness, board recruitment and leadership issues.
Liz works closely with the corporate governance community in Canada and is a sought after advisor, speaker and contributor on governance, CEO and board recruitment issues and the importance of diversity on boards. She teaches at the ICD’s Directors Education Program and recently authored CPA Canada’s publication on Building and Sustaining an Effective Board.
Liz has been named as one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women and as one of the inaugural Top 100 Influential Women of British Columbia.
Liz served for four years on the ICD Fellowship Awards Selection Committee and she currently serves on the selection committee for the Canadian Excellence in Governance Awards. As a director, Liz served on the board of SHAD International. She has served on the boards of the Institute of Corporate Directors, Choice School for Gifted Children, Forum for Women Entrepreneurs, Women in the Lead Inc, the BC Cancer Foundation, and as an Advisory Board member for Canada’s Top 40 Under 40.
Liz holds an LL.B from the University of British Columbia and completed executive education in the areas of governance and finance at Harvard University and Ivey Business School respectively. She was named Queen’s Counsel in 2012.

Lenard F. Boggio, FCPA, FCA, ICD.D

Lenard F. Boggio is an audit practitioner for more than 30 years with the firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and predecessor Coopers & Lybrand. Significant leadership involvement (both provincial and national) in the unification of the accounting profession across Canada.
Lenard has experience in Public Sector, Regulatory and Professional. He is the Chair of the CICA, Commissioner, since appointment by the provincial government in 2012, of the Financial Institutions Commission of British Columbia (“FICOM”). Currently participating in the review of the provincial financial institution legislation and regulation and is a member of the Ontario Securities Commission’s Continuous Disclosure Advisory Committee, 2006 to 2009. Provided advice to OSC on disclosure policy issues.
Lenard has significant experience working with complex international organizations and companies undergoing IPO’s, listings, public offerings and mergers/acquisitions. Senior member of PwC’s global mining industry practice, and leader of the BC region practice. Currently an Independent Director Appointments with Sprott Resource Holdings Inc, Polaris Materials Corporation, Pure Gold Mining Inc., Genome British Columbia, Lithium Americas Corporation, British Columbia Hydro Corporation and Titan Mining Corporation.
Lenard has numerous public speaking and/or teaching engagements for the ICABC, CICA, Law Society of BC, BC Captive Insurance Association, Institute of Corporate Directors and various other industry and community groups. Instructor for the Canadian Institute of Corporate Directors flagship Director’s Education Program. Faculty member and lecturer for Simon Fraser University MBA program.
Lenard holds FCPA, FCA, ICD.D, B.A. and B.Comm. Honours.
