Session: "Accountant as Influencer"
In the words of management expert, author and business consultant, Ken Blanchard, “The key to successful leadership today is influence, not authority”.  A former executive level Accountant, Russell has a deep understanding of the challenges that CPAs face in becoming influencers at all levels of the organization.  While technical skills and expertise may earn some degree of respect and managerial authority, influence is earned only through time and effort in building relationships based on respect, connection and trust.   The competencies of Emotional Intelligence are essential elements in building trust and influence.  It’s simple but not easy. There is no shortcut.  There is no exam and no A grade.
This session will explain the relationship between Emotional Intelligence and Influence and why it is a lifelong journey that takes time, effort and a lot of work on yourself before you can begin to build trust and influence with others.

Since 2010, Russell has been researching the competencies of emotional intelligence, leadership and human behavior.  He is an accomplished speaker, facilitator and business consultant. He has held positions as Controller at CGA-Canada and Director, Finance at Canuck Place Children’s Hospice.  He has an Executive MBA from SFU and is an Accredited Insights Discovery Licensed Practitioner.

Russell is founder and President of EQAdvantage Learning& Development and ProDio Audio Learning Inc. ProDio produces audio-only CPD courses available on the ProDio mobile app and through CPABC.  Russell’s passion is to develop understanding and wisdom of others, and his desire to help others to understand why developing emotional intelligence is such a valuable and perhaps the most important life objective.
